At Blue Action Lab we are developing systems, strategies and innovations that bring the best of nature and culture to bear in communities and ecosystems already facing the rapidly intensifying challenges of a changing climate. Novel forms of ecological restoration, social infrastructure, cutting-edge science are all part of our work. We bring natural environments back from the brink, ideally stronger and more resilient than before.
We educate and train communities so that they can drive forward the regenerative industries that will underpin the latter 21st Century. Most importantly, they will do so in ways that embody local knowledge and thereby create more autonomy, sovereignty and responsiveness in situ.
For us at Blue Action, success and sustainability are moving targets at which we must aim the arc of our work with fresh eyes every day, acknowledging trade-offs and competing tensions at every turn. There are no perfect solutions… no silver bullets….no win-win-wins. But there ARE important decisions that require informed deliberation, critical self-reflexiveness and ethical candor, all within a context of diverse stakeholdership.
At its root, our job is capacity-building… to create the enabling conditions for others to thrive in a complexifying world...to reconcile the seemingly incommensurable objectives of conservation and development. We are architecting new wilds, if you will. These are central reasons why partnering with Cristen René makes so much sense.
Blue Action Labs approaches nature-culture hybrids from a systemic perspective, while Cristen René does so from a symbolic one….and the two approaches are highly mutualistic. Images, art, and aesthetics contain the narratives we tell ourselves and each other with both an efficacy and ineffability that somehow speaks to both meaning and mystery, to both private and collective experiences, and that move us to decisive action and embodiment. These perennial tools are needed evermore in our march towards a brighter future and we are thrilled that Cristen René has chosen to lock arms with us.
